My fellow hikers are envious when I tell them what I am eating that evening. They are great for making my own freeze dried meals.I am able to create meals that are to my liking with my own selection of ingredients. I have used two sizes of these bags on extended backpacking trips. I recommend them often when given the chance. My cleanup amounts to cleaning my titanium spork I carry with me. All I have to do is add water that has just finished boiling to the bag with meal. I prepare my meals ahead of time in them before my hiking trip. These bags are great! They are rated for boiling water to be added inside and are food grade plastic. While pricey, they are a great alternative for freezer bags if one desires a heavy duty version. I always end up cutting several inches off the top of the bag after my food has rehydrated (which is tricky with a hot bag!), just to make it easier to eat out of. Every size is just too tall which makes it hard to pour hot water into the bag, hard to stir bag contents, and difficult to eat out of the bag even using a long-handled spoon. I love these, they're ALMOST perfect! Been using them for many years on every backpack trip, they allow me to mix my own dehydrated meals - I honestly don't know what I'd do without them! But I REALLY wish they were wider and shorter, this would make them MUCH more user-friendly. I think the bags would be perfect if they were rotated 90 degrees and were more like an mre pouch. I probably could have bought a smaller size. I did not bring a long enough spoon and ended up dumping the bag into my canteen cup, defeating the point of the bags.
